‘Forestry alone is the best Solution for Water
Conservation’:
The
Eco Club of Mukti Prakash High School Neerude, as a part of Silver
Jubilee of the school had arranged for a seminar to its students on the
occasion of ‘Vanamahotsava’. The
seminar was conducted by Samanvaya Mangalore and Kit Richy Trust Karkala
on July 30, 2007 at school premises. Rev.
Ronald D’souza the school correspondent and parish priest of Neerude
parish presided over the stage function. Sr. Prema B.S. of Sahodaya
Bethany Institute inaugurated the seminar by chanting water conservation
song and slogans of forestation. The resource person and the Director of
Samanvaya Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha explained various benefits from
forests to animals, plants and human beings. The need of water
conservation and the role of forests, soak pits, bunds, gully plugs,
disiliting of lakes and rivers, check dams, bore well recharging etc. in
raising the underground water table, through still pictures. Life of
those who are struggling to get clean water in drought stricken parts of
India and the role played by some individuals to conserve water were
placed before the participants as an inspiration.
The
headmistress Sr. Theresa welcomed, teacher Manorama thanked and student
Sonal Santhumayor proposed vote of thanks. The seminar was followed by
planting of trees in the School Compound. |
